Technical Visits on Friday September 1
On Friday September 1 Technical Visits are organized for those interested to 5 sites. All visits are by bus, departing from and returning to the RAI Convention Center. Participation is limited to 50 persons per visit on a first-come-first-served basis. Thus you are advised to book for a visit immediately when you register for the conference. All excursions leave at 08:30 from Parking P6 (south-east corner of the RAI complex, see the map below).
Visit 1: The Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics, NIKHEF and Science Park in Amsterdam
A high-tech tour of the NIKHEF facilities with specific attention for the Einstein Telescope project, low-vibration interferometry systems and the design and assembly of particle detectors.
Friday September 1, departure from RAI at 8:30 – return at RAI at ca. 12:30, cost 20 € (lunch not included).
Visit 2: The European Space Research and Technology Center, ESTEC in Noordwijk, the Netherlands This excursion is fully booked, no places anymore! http://www.esa.int/About_Us/ESTEC
This visit to ESA’s main technology department includes a tour of the Erasmus Space Exhibition Center, the Planetary Robotics Laboratory and Virtual Reality Theater.

Visit 3: The Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research DIFFER, Eindhoven https://www.differ.nl/ and
Philips Healthcare, Best, the Netherlands http://www.philips.nl/healthcare This excursion is fully booked, no places anymore!
This excursion to the Eindhoven region (a 1h30’ drive from Amsterdam) combines first a tour of the fusion research facilities at DIFFER including the superconducting magnet system Magnum used for plasma-wall interaction studies; and second a visit of the Philips Healthcare R&D center in Best, focusing on the design, testing, training on and demonstration of MRI systems.

Visit 4: The High Field Magnet Laboratory, HFML at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands
The Radboud University in Nijmegen (a ca. 1h30’ drive from Amsterdam) is home of the High Field Magnet Laboratory http://www.ru.nl/hfml/ and of the adjacent FELIX Laboratory equipped with a pulsed infrared free-electron laser http://www.ru.nl/felix/ which are both included in this visit.

Visit 5: The Applied Superconductivity and Cryogenics Labs and MESA+ Nano-Technology Institute at the
University of Twente, Enschede, the Netherlands. This excursion is fully booked, no places anymore!
At the University of Twente (a ca. 2h15’ drive from Amsterdam), a tour of the Twente Cryogenic and Applied Superconductivity Laboratories https://www.utwente.nl/tnw/ems/ is combined with a visit of the Institute for Nanotechnology MESA+ https://www.utwente.nl/mesaplus/.
